Oh what a piece of mail can do for a person! We filed our petition with the US Government to bring Johan home on October 12. From there, the Immigration Department goes over the whole file (court decree, relinquishment etc.) and decides whether or not to issue an approval. We are so incredibly happy to say that we received that approval (called our i-600) in the mail on Saturday! Not 10 minutes earlier, we got the cutest little passport photo in our email inbox. *sigh* This is real folks, and we're so close!
What's next? Our fabulous POA in Ghana will do many things for us before we arrive in Accra. In order:
-Pick up the visa application packet from US Consulate in Accra
-Take Johan to his Visa medical exam
-Attend the Visa interview on our behalf
From there, the Embassy SHOULD give us a print date for the visa. Once we know the print date, we will make travel arrangements. This whole process is so unpredictable any time of the year, but throw in the holidays, and it's even worse. It could take anywhere from 2 weeks to many more. We're planning on flying out sometime the week of January 15th to bring him home. And though he won't be home for Christmas, you can count on a celebration then!
Thank you all for your incredible support! Between our Holiday Mini Session fundraiser and a jewelry fundraiser, we believe we have raised enough to both travel to Ghana! We are forever grateful. As you can imagine, it's a bit difficult to try and plan details of a trip you're not sure of the dates for, but we're beyond excited. We'll be sure to update once we're sure of more!
May you be blessed and loved this most wonderful season!
